12v Televisions

Owning a 12v TV can be a real pleasure, but knowing which one to buy can be a minefield. Here I hope to enlighten you to the common uses and also give you something to think about before you buy one.
What is a 12v TV and why would you need one?
A 12v TV are usually designed and to be powered from a battery such as a car battery, but can be used with power from the mains. A 12v TV has much lower power consumption than a traditional TV which you would power from the mains. This will allow you to watch your TV for a much longer period of time then if you hooked up a traditional TV to a battery.
Most people think of 12v TVs to be used in a caravan or motorhome, but you can find a 12v TV in much more diverse places these days, such as trucks & Lorries, kitchens, tents (camping), cars in fact anywhere where you need a small low power TV.
The quality of 12v TVs these days has improved greatly over the last few years with improved picture, improved tuning, on board digital TV tuner and more compact, lighter devices.
Some people still use an inverter to lower the voltage of their traditional TV which is then wired up to a battery. This allows their TV to work, but the viewing time is much, much lower than if you buy a full 12v TV.
There are many different makes and models of 12v television on the market. They come in all shapes, sizes and prices. They also have very different functionality. Some contain a DVD player, some are full HD and some have remote controls. We suggest that you give it some thought about what you really do with your new 12v TV. Do you plan on using your TV to watch DVDs or just digital TV? Or if you're planning on travelling abroad is easy tuning a priority for you.
Something else to consider is the size of the television. If you have lots of space then this may not be an issue, but if you're planning on using your TV in a confined space than size is something you must consider.
Most 12v TVs come with holes on the back which will allow you to mount this on a wall which will save you space, but security is something else you will need to consider if you're going to mount your TV on a wall. You can buy special detachable television mounts so when not in use or if you're leaving your TV in a vehicle for some time you can remove and hide the 12v TV.
Also if you have a very large TV then attaching the television from the wall may be an issue. How many people who will be watching the TV at one time is also something to consider as if your 12v TV is too small then it will make viewing difficult if there are a lot of people watching.
